Issue
Jayne used the LiveCONNECTSM instant messaging service to contact her Workplace Options EAP. Her issue was regarding her living situation, as she had recently transferred from one city to another to work in another office within her company. She owned her own home in the city she previously lived in and was temporarily staying with friends in her new location. She was considering either renting out her own property or selling it but in the meantime she needed somewhere to live in her new area.
Solution
The EAP specialist discussed with Jayne the services available through the EAP, including local searches and asked some more questions to refine the support required and complete a thorough intake:
- What type of property and size are you looking for?
- Who will be living in this property?
- When do you need to move in?
- How long do you need the property for? Is this a short-term let, for 6 months, 12 months,
or longer-term?
- Do you have any pets?
- Are there any special requirements you need in the property? This could be anything from off-road parking and a garden to disabled access, or for a flat, what floors are suitable.
- Where do you want the property to be located and what are the other location parameters?
Do you need to be located near any amenities, e.g. school, shops, etc.?
- What is your budget per month? If your budget isn't suitable, do you have any other financial support to help with the rent, or are any alternatives available rather than privately renting?
- How do you want to receive this information (email, post, phone call, fax)?
Once the specialist completing the intake identified the answers to all the above questions, they explained to Jayne that a search would be completed and the information and referrals provided within 48 hours. The specialist then spent time completing the request, using the criteria provided and after an initial search for properties, contacted individual estate agents to confirm they met the stated criteria and were still available. Once the specialist completed the research and identified an appropriate number of properties (5), they included the information on the EAP referral forms. These forms were emailed to Jayne in the requested format.
Outcome
When the specialist followed up with Jayne a week later, as agreed, she had reviewed the properties and viewed two of them. Although she liked one of the properties, she was unable to rent it as the timescales didn't work out. However, she did ultimately rent a property though one of the agents highlighted in the referral forms and used the information gathered through the intake process to focus her search.
